Chief Rabbi Highlights Safety Concerns Amid Rising Antisemitic Attacks in London
Following a stabbing incident in Golders Green, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis expressed concerns over the safety of visibly Jewish individuals in Britain, amid a series of antisemitic attacks in London.
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis has expressed deep concern over the safety of visibly Jewish individuals in Britain, following a stabbing incident in Golders Green, London.
On April 29, two Jewish men, aged 34 and 76, were stabbed in the predominantly Jewish neighborhood of Golders Green. Both victims are in stable condition. The Metropolitan Police have declared the attack a terrorist incident and arrested a 45-year-old suspect with a history of violence and mental health issues.
This stabbing is the latest in a series of antisemitic attacks in London. In March, four ambulances belonging to the Jewish charity Hatzola were set on fire in Golders Green. Additionally, a synagogue and a Jewish charity's former premises were attacked in recent weeks.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence and pledged increased security measures, including a £25 million fund for police patrols and protection at Jewish sites.
An extremist group suspected of Iranian connections has claimed responsibility for the stabbing, and authorities are investigating its credibility.
The UK government has also linked Iran to attacks against Jewish and anti-regime targets in Europe, citing disrupted plots.
Amid rising tensions, there are calls for regulations on pro-Palestinian protests, some of which are alleged to have incited antisemitic hatred.
