Ukraine Targets Russian Oil Infrastructure Amid Ceasefire Proposal

Ukrainian drones have targeted oil infrastructure in Perm, Russia, over 1,500 kilometers from the front lines. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed strikes on the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery and a nearby oil pumping station, marking the second consecutive day of such attacks. The refinery, with an annual capacity of nearly 13 million tons, supplies both civilian and military sectors.

In response to these developments, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a one-day ceasefire on May 9, coinciding with Russia's Victory Day celebrations. During a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Putin expressed readiness "to declare a ceasefire for the duration of Victory Day celebrations," according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed officials to seek clarification on the proposal. "We have instructed our representatives to contact the United States president's team and clarify the details of the Russian proposal for a short-term ceasefire," Zelenskyy stated. He emphasized Ukraine's preference for a longer-term ceasefire.

Amid security concerns, Russia has announced a significant reduction in its annual Victory Day parade. For the first time in 18 years, the event will not feature tanks, armored vehicles, or heavy military hardware. The Russian Ministry of Defense cited the "current operational situation" as the reason, with analysts suggesting fears of potential Ukrainian drone attacks as a contributing factor.
