The Israel Defense Forces announced the demolition of a significant Hezbollah tunnel system in Qantara, southern Lebanon, constructed with Iranian support.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday the discovery and destruction of a substantial Hezbollah tunnel network in Qantara, southern Lebanon. The tunnels, extending approximately two kilometers and reaching depths of 25 meters, were constructed over a decade with direct guidance and funding from Iran, according to the IDF.

The IDF detailed that the tunnels comprised around 30 rooms and multiple shafts, some equipped with rocket launchers aimed at Israel. Inside, troops found weapons and living quarters designed to accommodate Hezbollah operatives for extended periods.

To neutralize the threat, the IDF employed 450 tons of explosives to demolish the tunnels. The controlled explosions were significant enough to be detected by the Geological Survey of Israel's seismic warning system, though no earthquake sirens were activated.

Despite a ceasefire, Hezbollah has continued attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. On Monday, two IDF soldiers were wounded, one seriously, by a Hezbollah drone strike. The IDF stated that such actions constitute violations of the ceasefire agreements.

Since hostilities resumed on March 2, 2026, two Israeli civilians and 16 IDF soldiers have been killed. Lebanon's health ministry reports over 2,500 fatalities in Israeli strikes during the same period, though it does not distinguish between civilians and combatants. The IDF claims to have killed over 1,900 Hezbollah operatives since the escalation.
