Stephen Colbert Reflects on 'Late Show' Cancellation and CBS's Decision
Stephen Colbert discusses the cancellation of 'The Late Show,' acknowledging CBS's financial reasoning while noting a shift in the network's stance.
Stephen Colbert, host of 'The Late Show,' addressed the upcoming conclusion of his program, scheduled for May 21. CBS attributed the cancellation to financial considerations amid challenges in the late-night television landscape. Colbert acknowledged the network's rationale, stating, "I do not dispute their rationale. I do make jokes about it. But I also completely understand why people would say (A) that doesn’t make sense to me and (B) that seems fishy to me, because the network did it to themselves." He observed a shift in CBS's approach, noting that less than two years prior, the network was eager to extend his contract. Reflecting on his tenure, Colbert expressed gratitude for the past 11 years on CBS, emphasizing a preference to focus on positive experiences rather than harboring resentment.
