King Charles III Commences U.S. State Visit Amid Diplomatic Tensions

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in Washington, D.C., on Monday to commence a four-day state visit to the United States, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of American independence. The visit proceeds despite recent security concerns following a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday. Buckingham Palace confirmed that, after a security review, the trip would continue as planned.

The royal couple's itinerary includes a private tea with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House, a state dinner, and a speech by King Charles to a joint session of Congress. They will also visit New York City to pay respects at the September 11 Memorial and participate in a community project in Harlem. The visit concludes in Virginia, where the King and Queen will engage with local cultural groups and conservation initiatives.

This visit occurs amid diplomatic tensions between the U.S. and the U.K., particularly concerning differing stances on military actions in Iran. President Trump has criticized U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not supporting U.S. military operations, referring to him as "not Winston Churchill." Despite these tensions, President Trump has expressed admiration for King Charles, describing him as a "fantastic man."

Additionally, the visit has attracted attention due to calls from Epstein victims for the King to meet with them, following allegations involving his brother, Prince Andrew. Buckingham Palace has indicated that such a meeting is unlikely during this trip.

Following the U.S. visit, King Charles is scheduled to travel to Bermuda, marking his first visit to the British overseas territory as monarch.
