iPhone 17 Air Expected to Feature A19 Pro Chip With 5-Core GPU
The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to include an A19 Pro chip with fewer GPU cores than the Pro models, resulting in lower graphics performance.
Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 17 Air as a replacement for the 'Plus' model in its lineup. This device is anticipated to occupy a position between the base model and the premium iPhone 17 Pro models. Although it may share some specifications with the Pro models, such as 12GB of RAM, recent reports suggest it will differ in GPU configuration.
iPhone 17 Air Positioned Between Base and Pro Models
A Weibo-based source, Fixed Focus Digital, reports that the iPhone 17 Air will use Apple's A19 Pro chip. While the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to have a 6-core GPU, the iPhone 17 Air may feature a 5-core GPU. This configuration could result in lower graphical performance compared to the Pro models. The chip is still expected to offer high performance, and the difference may not be noticeable to most users. The efficiency of the chip is also expected to remain consistent, which could be important for battery life.
Conflicting Reports on Chip Specifications
Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that the iPhone 17 Air may use the standard A19 chip, which would also be present in the standard variant of the lineup. These differing reports indicate that the final specifications are not yet confirmed. If the iPhone 17 Air includes the same RAM as the Pro models and an A19 Pro chip, its performance could be closer to the higher-end models.
Kuo previously suggested that the iPhone 17 Air might receive the A18 chip from the previous year, making the inclusion of the A19 chip a potential distinguishing feature. Kuo has not indicated that the Air will receive the Pro chip. Another analyst, Jeff Pu, also reported that the standard iPhone 17 may feature the A18 chip. The final details are expected to be clarified when Apple announces the iPhone 17 lineup in September.
