UK Police Arrest Seven in Connection with Foiled Arson Plot Targeting Jewish Community
British counterterrorism police have arrested seven individuals over the past 48 hours in connection with a suspected conspiracy to commit arson targeting a venue associated with the Jewish community in London.
British counterterrorism police have arrested seven individuals over the past 48 hours in connection with a suspected conspiracy to commit arson targeting a venue associated with the Jewish community in London. The Metropolitan Police stated that while the specific target remains unidentified, the intended venue is believed to be linked to the Jewish community.
The arrests were made in Harpenden, Stevenage, near Birmingham, and in Ealing, west London.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans, the senior national coordinator of counterterrorism policing, emphasized the seriousness of the situation: "We will not tolerate this intimidation of our communities and will pursue those responsible." She also highlighted a key line of inquiry: "One of our key lines of inquiry is whether criminal proxies – that is to say people being paid money to carry out a crime, are being used to commit any of these arsons."
These arrests follow a series of arson attacks targeting Jewish sites in London since late March, including incidents involving Jewish community ambulances in Golders Green, two synagogues, and a former Jewish charity building.
In a related development, a 39-year-old man was arrested in Ealing under section 41 of the Terrorism Act in connection with an incident involving a drone near the Israeli embassy.
The Metropolitan Police have increased patrols and deployed additional resources to reassure and protect Jewish places of worship and businesses in north-west London.
Authorities continue to investigate the potential involvement of criminal proxies in these attacks and are committed to holding all responsible parties accountable.
