Apple's Next-Generation MacBook Pro Faces Delays Amid Memory Shortages
Apple's upcoming MacBook Pro, featuring significant upgrades, is reportedly delayed due to industry-wide memory shortages, potentially pushing its release to early 2027.
Apple's forthcoming MacBook Pro, anticipated to include an OLED display with a Dynamic Island cutout, touchscreen capabilities, and the new M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, is reportedly facing production delays. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, industry-wide memory shortages are causing supply constraints, potentially postponing the launch until early 2027.
Initially, the release was expected between late 2026 and early 2027, with many anticipating an announcement around October or November. However, the scarcity of components like RAM and SSD storage has shifted the timeline toward the latter part of this window. The Mac Studio update is also affected by similar delays.
Software preparations for the new touchscreen MacBook Pro are reportedly on track for a fall release as part of macOS 27, indicating that the delay is not related to software development. The touch interface is expected to feature new contextual menu controls and dynamically enlarged buttons in the system menu bar.
Given the substantial upgrades, Apple may position this OLED MacBook Pro as a high-end variant with a higher price point, while continuing to offer the current M5 MacBook Pros at existing prices. This strategy could help manage demand amid the constrained supply.
