Iran Declines Further Peace Talks Amid U.S. Naval Blockade

Iran has declined to engage in a second round of peace negotiations with the United States, citing concerns over Washington's demands and the continuation of a naval blockade, which Tehran views as a violation of the ceasefire. The official news agency IRNA reported that Iran's decision stems from "Washington's excessive demands, unrealistic expectations, constant shifts in stance, repeated contradictions, and the ongoing naval blockade, which it considers a breach of the ceasefire."

This development follows the U.S. Navy's recent seizure of the Iranian-flagged cargo ship Touska near the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump stated that the vessel attempted to breach the American blockade and ignored repeated warnings, leading to its disabling and capture by U.S. Marines.

In response, Iran condemned the seizure as an act of piracy and a violation of the ceasefire, vowing a swift response. Iranian state media indicated skepticism about the planned U.S.-Iran talks in Pakistan, suggesting they may be canceled.

The incident has intensified regional instability, with Iran reasserting control over the Strait of Hormuz and warning of further restrictions. The British military has escalated its threat assessment for the region to "Critical," the highest risk level, citing a high level of naval activity and the risk of attack or miscalculation for commercial shipping.

The ongoing conflict, which began on February 28, has resulted in thousands of casualties and continues to strain U.S.-Iran relations. Diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation remain uncertain, with no confirmations from Iran or Pakistan regarding the planned talks in Islamabad.
