Johnny Somali, known for provocative online content, received a six-month prison sentence in South Korea for public disturbances and distributing obscene videos.

American YouTuber Johnny Somali, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Seoul Western District Court for public nuisance and distributing obscene videos.

In October 2024, Ismael uploaded a video of himself kissing and performing a lap dance on a 'Statue of Peace' in Seoul, a monument commemorating Korean women forced into sexual slavery during World War II. The incident sparked significant public backlash.

The court found Ismael guilty of multiple charges, including obstruction of business and distributing falsified video materials under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes. He was also sentenced to 20 days of detention and barred from employment at institutions related to children, adolescents, and people with disabilities for five years.

Prosecutors had sought a three-year prison term, but the court imposed a lesser sentence, noting the absence of severe harm to victims.

Ismael has a history of provocative behavior in various countries, including Japan and Israel, leading to multiple arrests and bans from several streaming platforms.
