Michigan Man Released After Wife's Disappearance in Bahamas

Summary

Brian Hooker, a Michigan resident, has been released by Bahamian authorities following the disappearance of his wife, Lynette, who reportedly fell overboard during a boating trip near Elbow Cay. Investigations are ongoing, with no charges filed at this time.

Brian Hooker, a resident of Onsted, Michigan, has been released by Bahamian authorities after being questioned regarding the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker.

According to Hooker's account, on the night of April 4, while traveling in an 8-foot motorboat from Hope Town to Elbow Cay, Lynette, 55, fell overboard. He stated that she had the boat's keys, causing the engine to shut off, and that strong currents carried her away before he could assist.

After reaching shore, Hooker alerted authorities early the following day. He was taken into custody on April 8 and questioned by police. Following consultations with prosecutors, who recommended against filing charges at this time, Hooker was released. Investigations by both Bahamian authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard are ongoing.

The couple, married for over 20 years, documented their sailing adventures in the Caribbean on social media. In 2023, they purchased a sailboat named Soul Mate and embarked on a cruise through the Gulf of Mexico.

Lynette's daughter, Karli Aylesworth, expressed skepticism about the account, noting her mother's experience as a sailor and questioning the likelihood of her falling overboard.

In 2015, the couple had a documented domestic incident in Kentwood, Michigan, where both accused each other of assault.

The search for Lynette continues as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
