Michigan Man Released Amid Ongoing Investigation into Wife's Disappearance in the Bahamas

Summary

Brian Hooker has been released from Bahamian custody as investigations continue into the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, who reportedly fell overboard during a boating trip.

Brian Hooker, a 59-year-old from Onsted, Michigan, has been released from custody in the Bahamas following the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, 55. The Royal Bahamas Police Force announced his release after consulting with the Department of Public Prosecutions, which recommended no charges be filed at this time, pending further investigations.

The incident occurred on April 4, when the couple was traveling in an eight-foot motorboat from Hope Town to Elbow Cay. Brian Hooker reported that Lynette fell overboard during the journey, and strong currents carried her away. He stated that she had the boat's keys, causing the engine to shut off, and he paddled to shore to seek help.

Authorities detained Brian Hooker on April 8 for questioning. His attorney, Terrel Butler, stated that he "categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing" and has been cooperating with the investigation.

Lynette Hooker's daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has expressed skepticism about the account, noting her mother's experience as a sailor and raising concerns about the couple's relationship history. She has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her mother's disappearance.

The U.S. Coast Guard has initiated a separate investigation into the incident. As of now, Lynette Hooker remains missing, and search efforts are ongoing.
