A 20-year-old Texas man has been charged with attempting to kill OpenAI CEO Sam Altman after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at Altman's San Francisco residence and threatening the company's headquarters.

A 20-year-old Texas man, Daniel Moreno-Gama, has been charged with attempting to kill OpenAI CEO Sam Altman following an alleged Molotov cocktail attack on Altman's San Francisco home. The incident occurred early Friday morning, when Moreno-Gama allegedly threw an incendiary device at the residence, igniting an exterior gate. No injuries were reported.

Approximately an hour later, Moreno-Gama was arrested near OpenAI's headquarters after reportedly threatening to burn down the building. Authorities allege that he expressed anti-artificial intelligence sentiments and had a list of names and addresses of AI company executives and investors.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that Moreno-Gama is charged with attempted murder, arson, and possession of an incendiary device.

In a separate incident on Sunday morning, two individuals were arrested for allegedly firing shots at Altman's residence. No injuries were reported in either incident.

OpenAI confirmed the attacks and stated that they are cooperating with law enforcement. The company expressed gratitude for the swift response of the San Francisco Police Department and emphasized their commitment to employee safety.

Altman addressed the incidents in a blog post, sharing a family photo and calling for calmer rhetoric around AI issues.

Authorities are treating the attacks as serious threats and are continuing their investigations into both incidents.
