Michigan Woman Missing in Bahamas; Husband Arrested Amid Investigation

सारांश

Lynette Hooker, 55, disappeared in the Bahamas; her husband, Brian Hooker, has been arrested as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Authorities in the Bahamas have arrested Brian Hooker, 59, following the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, 55, during a boating trip near Abaco. The couple, originally from Onsted, Michigan, had been documenting their sailing adventures on social media under the moniker "The Sailing Hookers."

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Saturday night as the Hookers were traveling in an 8-foot motorboat from Hope Town to Elbow Cay. Brian Hooker informed authorities that Lynette fell overboard with the boat's keys, causing the engine to shut off. He stated that strong currents carried her away before he could assist, prompting him to paddle to shore and alert authorities early Sunday morning.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force arrested Brian Hooker on Wednesday in Abaco for questioning. His attorney, Terrel Butler, stated that he "categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing" and is cooperating fully with the investigation.

The U.S. Coast Guard has initiated a separate criminal investigation into the case.

Family members have expressed skepticism regarding the circumstances of Lynette's disappearance. Her daughter, Karli Aylesworth, noted that her mother was an experienced sailor and found it unlikely that she would "just fall" off the boat. Aylesworth also described the couple's relationship as "rocky at best," citing a history of domestic disputes.

The couple had been married for over two decades and had sold their home to live full-time on their sailboat, the Soul Mate. They documented their voyages through various social media platforms, sharing videos and updates about their experiences at sea.

As the investigation continues, authorities have not yet filed formal charges against Brian Hooker. Search efforts for Lynette are ongoing, with both Bahamian authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard involved in the operation.
