Apple to Permanently Close Three U.S. Retail Stores Amid Declining Mall Conditions
Apple announces the permanent closure of three U.S. retail stores due to deteriorating mall environments, with affected employees offered positions at nearby locations.
Apple has announced the permanent closure of three retail stores in the United States, citing deteriorating conditions in the malls where they are located. The affected stores are:
- Apple Towson Town Center in Towson, Maryland
- Apple North County in Escondido, California
- Apple Trumbull in Trumbull, Connecticut
In a statement, Apple attributed the closures to "the departure of several retailers and declining conditions" at these malls. The company emphasized its commitment to delivering exceptional service and experiences for customers, noting that it continually evaluates existing locations to best meet customer needs.
The closures are scheduled for June. Currently, the stores are listed as "temporarily closed today" on Apple's website but are expected to reopen before permanently shutting down.
Apple has assured that employees at the Trumbull and Escondido locations will have the opportunity to continue their roles at nearby Apple Retail stores. Employees at the Towson location, which unionized in June 2022, will be eligible to apply for open roles at Apple in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Despite these closures, Apple continues to invest in its retail presence. Over the past year, the company has opened eleven new stores worldwide and upgraded or replaced fourteen others, including two new stores and eight upgrades in the United States.
