Husband Arrested in Connection with Wife's Disappearance in the Bahamas
Brian Hooker has been arrested following the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, during a boating trip near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas.
Brian Hooker, 59, has been arrested by the Royal Bahamas Police Force in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, 55, during a boating trip near Elbow Cay. The arrest occurred on Wednesday evening in Abaco, according to police statements. Brian Hooker reported that on Saturday night, while returning to their yacht, 'Soulmate,' Lynette fell overboard from their 8-foot dinghy, taking the boat's keys with her, which caused the engine to shut off. He stated that strong currents carried her away, and he lost sight of her. After paddling to shore, he alerted authorities early Sunday morning.
Lynette's daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has expressed skepticism about this account, citing her mother's extensive sailing experience and questioning why Lynette would have had the boat keys, a responsibility typically held by Brian. She also referenced a history of volatility in the couple's relationship, particularly involving alcohol.
The U.S. Coast Guard has initiated a criminal investigation into the case. Brian Hooker's attorney, Terrel Butler, stated that her client 'categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing' and is cooperating with authorities.
The couple, both from Michigan, had been married for over two decades and documented their sailing adventures online under the moniker 'The Sailing Hookers.'
