Resumen

Rex Heuermann, a 62-year-old Long Island architect, is anticipated to plead guilty to the murders of seven women, concluding a case that has spanned over a decade.

Rex Heuermann, a 62-year-old architect from Long Island, is expected to plead guilty on Wednesday to the murders of seven women, many of whom were sex workers, over a 17-year period. This development is anticipated to bring closure to a case that has remained unresolved for over a decade.

The investigation began in 2010 when multiple sets of human remains were discovered along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach. The victims included Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Lynn Costello, Valerie Mack, Jessica Taylor, and Megan Waterman. Another victim, Sandra Costilla, was found more than 60 miles away in the Hamptons.

In 2022, a multi-agency task force identified Heuermann as a suspect by linking him to a pickup truck seen near the disappearance of one of the victims in 2010. Further investigation revealed DNA evidence connecting Heuermann to the crimes, including a match from a discarded pizza crust to a male hair found on one of the victims.

Following his arrest in July 2023, authorities searched Heuermann's residence, uncovering a basement vault containing 279 weapons and digital files described as a "blueprint" for the killings.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday afternoon, following the court hearing. He will be joined ... the victims' families and the Gilgo Beach Homic ... .

Heuermann's attorney, Michael Brown, has not responded to requests for comment regarding the anticipated guilty plea.
