Delta Air Lines Increases Checked Baggage Fees Amid Rising Fuel Costs

सारांश

Delta Air Lines has announced an increase in checked baggage fees for domestic and select short-haul international flights, citing escalating jet fuel prices due to Middle East conflicts.

Delta Air Lines announced on Tuesday an increase in checked baggage fees for domestic and select short-haul international flights, effective for tickets purchased on or after April 8. The fee for the first checked bag will rise by $10 to $45, the second by $10 to $55, and the third by $50 to $200.

The airline attributed the fee adjustments to "evolving global conditions and industry dynamics." This marks Delta's first increase in domestic baggage fees in two years and follows similar moves by United Airlines and JetBlue Airways.

The aviation industry is facing increased operating costs due to a surge in jet fuel prices, which have risen from approximately $85 to $90 per barrel to around $209 per barrel globally, following recent conflicts in the Middle East.

Delta's complimentary baggage policies remain unchanged for premium cabin passengers, active-duty military personnel, eligible co-branded credit card holders, and certain loyalty program members. Fees for long-haul international flights are not affected by this change.
