Wireless Festival Cancelled After UK Bars Kanye West Over Antisemitic Remarks

Resumen

The UK's Wireless Festival has been cancelled following the government's decision to deny Kanye West entry due to his antisemitic comments.

The UK's Wireless Festival, scheduled for July 2026, has been cancelled after the Home Office denied entry to headliner Kanye West, citing his previous antisemitic remarks. The Home Office stated that West's presence "would not be conducive to the public good."

Festival organisers announced the cancellation, assuring that all ticket holders would receive full refunds. They acknowledged the impact of antisemitism and noted that multiple stakeholders were consulted before booking West, with no concerns raised at that time.

The decision follows significant backlash from political figures and Jewish organisations. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described West's booking as "deeply concerning," and the Campaign Against Antisemitism urged the government to prevent his entry.

Major sponsors, including Pepsi and Diageo, withdrew their support for the festival in response to West's involvement. A Pepsi spokesperson confirmed the withdrawal, and Diageo stated they had informed organisers of their concerns and would not sponsor the 2026 Wireless Festival.

West, who now goes by Ye, has faced criticism for antisemitic comments and actions, including releasing a song titled "Heil Hitler" and selling merchandise featuring Nazi imagery. In January, he issued a public apology, attributing his behaviour to a manic episode related to his bipolar disorder.

Despite expressing a desire to promote unity and engage with the Jewish community in the UK, the Home Office's decision led to the festival's cancellation.
