Iran Rejects Ceasefire Proposal Amid Escalating Tensions

Resumen

Iran has declined a proposed 45-day ceasefire, seeking a permanent end to hostilities, while Israel targets key Iranian petrochemical facilities.

Iran has rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal, insisting on a permanent end to the conflict. Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour, head of Iran's diplomatic mission in Cairo, stated, "We won't merely accept a ceasefire. We only accept an end of the war with guarantees that we won't be attacked again."

The ceasefire proposal, mediated by Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkey, aimed to halt hostilities temporarily and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iran conveyed its response through Pakistan, presenting a ten-point plan that includes lifting sanctions, reconstruction efforts, and ensuring safe passage through the Strait.

In parallel developments, Israel conducted airstrikes on Iran's South Pars natural gas field, targeting a major petrochemical plant. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described the attack as a "powerful strike on the largest petrochemical facility in Iran," responsible for about 50% of the country's petrochemical production.

U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged the ceasefire proposal as a "significant step" but deemed it insufficient. He reiterated his ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday, threatening to target Iranian infrastructure if the deadline is not met.

The situation remains tense, with ongoing military actions and diplomatic negotiations failing to yield a resolution.
