Apple Limits Mac Studio RAM Options Amid Global Memory Shortage
Apple has removed the 512GB RAM upgrade for its M3 Ultra Mac Studio, now capping memory at 256GB, and increased the cost of this upgrade by $400, reflecting the ongoing global DRAM shortage.
Apple has adjusted its Mac Studio configurations in response to the global DRAM shortage. The company has removed the 512GB RAM upgrade option for the M3 Ultra Mac Studio, now offering a maximum of 256GB of unified memory. Additionally, the cost to upgrade from 96GB to 256GB has increased from $1,600 to $2,000.
The global memory shortage, driven by high demand for AI data centers, has led manufacturers to prioritize high-bandwidth memory (HBM) over consumer DRAM, causing supply constraints and price increases.
As a result, delivery times for Mac Studio configurations with 256GB RAM have extended into May.
Apple's decision to limit RAM options and adjust pricing reflects the broader impact of the memory shortage on the tech industry.
