Google Meet Introduces Audio-Only Support on Apple CarPlay; Android Auto Version Forthcoming

Google has announced the integration of its video conferencing service, Google Meet, with Apple CarPlay, allowing users to participate in audio-only meetings directly from their vehicle's dashboard. This feature aims to facilitate hands-free communication for professionals on the move, enhancing safety and convenience.

Upon connecting an iPhone to a CarPlay-compatible vehicle, the Google Meet app becomes accessible on the car's display. Users can view their upcoming meeting schedule and join meetings with a single tap. To minimize distractions while driving, the CarPlay version of Google Meet is limited to audio participation; video feeds are disabled, and the camera remains off. Available controls include mute/unmute and the option to leave the meeting. Features such as chat, hand raise, polls, and Q&A are not supported in this mode.

Google has indicated that support for Android Auto is forthcoming, stating that Android Auto users can expect a version of Meet for Android Auto soon. However, a specific release date has not been provided.

This update is being rolled out gradually, with the process commencing on March 23, 2026, and expected to reach all users within 15 days. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.

To utilize Google Meet on CarPlay, users should ensure they have the latest version of the app installed on their iPhone and connect to a CarPlay-compatible vehicle. This integration underscores Google's commitment to enhancing user accessibility and safety by providing seamless communication tools for users on the go.
