Raspberry Pi Introduces 3GB Model Amid Rising Memory Costs
Raspberry Pi has launched a 3GB version of its Raspberry Pi 4 at $83.75 and announced price increases across models with 4GB or more RAM due to escalating memory prices.
Raspberry Pi has unveiled a new 3GB variant of its Raspberry Pi 4, priced at $83.75, to provide a cost-effective option amid rising memory prices. This model aims to bridge the gap between the existing 2GB and 4GB versions, offering users more flexibility in their choices.
Concurrently, the company has announced price increases for models equipped with 4GB or more RAM. The Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 with 4GB of RAM will see a $25 increase, while the 8GB versions will rise by $50. The 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 is set to increase by $100, bringing its price to $305. The Raspberry Pi 500+ will experience a $150 price hike, with the unit alone priced at $410 and the kit at $430. Compute Modules 4 and 4S with 1GB of RAM will see an $11.25 increase, with other configurations also affected.
These adjustments are attributed to a significant surge in LPDDR4 DRAM costs, which have increased sevenfold over the past year. Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton emphasized the company's commitment to providing affordable computing solutions, stating that while some cost increases are unavoidable, efforts are being made to offer a range of memory options to ensure customers only pay for the memory they need.
The new 3GB Raspberry Pi 4 is available through authorized resellers worldwide, and the updated pricing for other models is effective immediately.
