PRP Calls for Opposition Unity Amid ADC Leadership Crisis

The People's Redemption Party (PRP) has called on prominent opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, to unite under its platform to bolster Nigeria's democratic framework. This appeal follows the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) recent decision to suspend recognition of all leadership factions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to ongoing internal disputes.

James Adeshina, PRP's Lagos State Chairman, expressed concern over the ADC's internal conflicts, stating that such crises weaken the collective strength of opposition parties and could lead Nigeria toward a one-party system. He emphasized PRP's stability and ideological consistency, highlighting its 47-year history without significant internal discord. Adeshina invited key opposition leaders to consider aligning with PRP to present a unified front in upcoming elections.

The ADC has been embroiled in leadership disputes, leading INEC to halt engagement with its factions until a substantive court judgment is issued. In response, the ADC has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to destabilize the party, a claim the APC has dismissed as baseless.

As the 2027 general elections approach, the PRP's call for unity underscores the challenges facing Nigeria's opposition parties in presenting a cohesive alternative to the current administration.
