Apple Expands iOS 18 Security Updates to Mitigate DarkSword Exploit
Apple has released iOS 18.7.7 to a broader range of devices, addressing the DarkSword exploit and enhancing security for users who have not upgraded to iOS 26.
Apple has expanded the availability of iOS 18.7.7 to a wider array of devices, aiming to protect users from the DarkSword exploit. This update allows users who have not upgraded to iOS 26 to receive critical security patches.
The DarkSword exploit, identified in March 2026, targets iOS versions 18.4 through 18.7, enabling attackers to compromise devices via malicious websites. Apple had previously released fixes for this vulnerability in 2025. The company stated, "We enabled the availability of iOS 18.7.7 for more devices on April 1, 2026, so users with Automatic Updates turned on can automatically receive important security protections from web attacks called DarkSword."
The update is available for devices including iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, and newer models, as well as various iPad models. Users with Automatic Updates enabled will receive the update automatically. Apple advises users to keep their software up to date to maintain device security.
