The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) has introduced the Climate Pathways Navigator, a tool designed to provide financial institutions with direct access to climate scenario data, facilitating informed, science-based decisions on decarbonization strategies.

Developed in collaboration with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the Navigator has undergone over a year of testing with banks, investors, insurers, and export credit agencies. It streamlines complex climate scenarios, offering sectoral and regional data points through an intuitive interface.

UNEP FI Head Eric Usher emphasized the importance of understanding climate scenarios for strategic action, stating that without scientific grounding, the financial sector risks incomplete information leading to incomplete action. He highlighted the partnership with IIASA and PIK as groundbreaking, noting that the Navigator brings a granular level of science, making complex climate scenario data accessible and actionable for financial institutions.

The Climate Pathways Navigator is freely available to UNEP FI members, the broader finance sector, as well as governments and policymakers, underscoring UNEP FI's commitment to providing high-quality climate scenario analysis and supporting progress on climate action.
