University of Nairobi Hosts Indian High Commissioner, Launches Nairobi–New Delhi Dialogue
The University of Nairobi hosted Indian High Commissioner Dr. Adarsh Swaika, inaugurating the Nairobi–New Delhi Dialogue to enhance Kenya–India relations through innovation and research.
On March 31, 2026, the University of Nairobi welcomed Dr. Adarsh Swaika, India's High Commissioner to Kenya, for a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson. The discussions emphasized advancing Kenya–India relations by focusing on innovation, research, and the digital economy.
Prof. Hutchinson highlighted the University's commitment to fostering dialogue and collaborative solutions to shared challenges. Dr. Swaika expressed interest in supporting the modernization of university staff housing to attract more international scholars.
The visit included the inauguration of the India Corner at the Mahatma Gandhi Graduate Library, featuring a donation of 100 books from the Indian Embassy to promote learning about Indian culture. A tribute was also paid at the Mahatma Gandhi statue, underscoring the cultural ties between the two nations.
The day's events culminated in the launch of the Nairobi–New Delhi Dialogue at the Chandaria Auditorium, themed “Reimagining Kenya–India Relations.” The forum gathered students, scholars, diplomats, and experts from various universities to discuss trade, digital innovation, education, and cultural connections. Participants agreed on the importance of a future-focused partnership supporting youth, innovation, and sustainable development, with a commitment to make the Dialogue an annual event.
