Trump States Israel Has Agreed to Conditions for 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire

Summary

President Donald Trump announced that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions for a ceasefire in Gaza, though it remains uncertain whether Hamas will accept the terms.

President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize a ceasefire in Gaza. It is not yet clear whether Hamas will accept the terms.

Two administration officials indicated that Hamas still needs to agree to the deal. In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that representatives from Qatar and Egypt would deliver the proposal.

"My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War. The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Earlier, it was reported that Qatari officials had submitted a new proposal for a 60-day ceasefire to both Hamas and Israel. This proposal is supported by the Trump administration, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The proposal was finalized after several months of efforts led by President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, the source said. It was submitted on the same day that Israel’s Minister for Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, visited Washington for meetings with senior Trump administration officials.

The new proposal follows recent efforts by Qatar to broker a ceasefire between Iran and Israel after military actions involving both countries. It also comes months after an earlier ceasefire proposal for Gaza, supported by the Trump administration, was rejected by Hamas.

A source stated that the new version of the proposal, which also involved Qatari input, aimed to address concerns raised by Hamas regarding the previous proposal. During the ceasefire, Israeli hostages would be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, according to the source.

The White House did not comment on the details of the proposal prior to Trump’s post on Truth Social.

Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Reports indicate that Netanyahu is considering whether to pursue a ceasefire or continue military operations in Gaza. On Tuesday, an Israeli military official stated that Israel has not fully achieved its war objectives, and as Hamas’ forces have diminished and become less visible, targeting the group has become more challenging.

Netanyahu stated on Sunday that "many opportunities have opened up" following Israel’s military actions in Iran, including the possibility of securing the release of remaining hostages held in Gaza.

Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he would be "very firm" in discussions with Netanyahu at the upcoming White House meeting and predicted that the prime minister is interested in ending the conflict.

"He wants to. I can tell you he wants to. I think we’ll have a deal next week," Trump said.

Despite the new proposal, reaching an agreement on a ceasefire remains a significant challenge. Hamas has previously called for a permanent ceasefire, making it uncertain whether it will agree to a temporary 60-day truce. Hamas also maintains its position that the conflict must end and that it should remain in power, which Israel opposes, according to a separate source familiar with the matter.

There have been indications that Hamas may be willing to reconsider some of its positions, the source added.
