Micron Technology has experienced a remarkable stock performance over the past year, with shares appreciating by over 300%. This surge is largely attributed to the escalating demand for memory chips in artificial intelligence (AI) applications, particularly in data centers.
In its fiscal first quarter of 2026, Micron reported record revenues of $13.64 billion, marking a 56% increase from the same period the previous year. The company's net income reached $5.24 billion, or $4.60 per diluted share.
The memory chip market is currently experiencing significant price increases due to supply constraints and heightened demand. Dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) prices have surged, with contract prices for 16Gb DDR5 chips rising from approximately $6.84 in September 2025 to $27.20 in December 2025, nearly a 300% increase.
Analysts remain optimistic about Micron's prospects. UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri raised his price target to $475, citing expectations that DRAM shortages could persist through 2027 and possibly into 2028.
To meet the growing demand, Micron has committed approximately $24 billion to expand its wafer manufacturing operations in Singapore, adding 700,000 square feet of cleanroom space at an existing NAND manufacturing complex.
