US Deploys 2,500 Marines and USS Tripoli to Middle East Amid Escalating Conflict

The United States has deployed 2,500 Marines and the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli to the Middle East, according to a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity. This move comes amid escalating tensions following nearly two weeks of conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran.

The USS Tripoli, an America-class amphibious assault ship, had been forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, as part of a scheduled rotation of forces in the Pacific. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, which recently integrated with the USS Tripoli for the first time, is known for its rapid response capabilities.

In Tehran, a significant explosion occurred in Ferdowsi Square during a pro-Palestinian rally. Israel had issued a warning prior to the blast, highlighting the high-stakes nature of the ongoing conflict.

The conflict has also severely impacted Lebanon, with over 770 fatalities and approximately 850,000 people displaced due to clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.

The U.S. military confirmed the deaths of six personnel in a KC-135 crash in Iraq, bringing the total U.S. military fatalities to at least 13 since the conflict began.

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have affirmed continued military pressure, while humanitarian and geopolitical concerns continue to grow across the region.
