Apple's M4 iPad Air: Enhanced Performance and Connectivity
Apple's latest iPad Air, powered by the M4 chip, offers improved performance and connectivity features, maintaining its previous design and pricing.
Apple has introduced the latest iPad Air, now equipped with the M4 chip, delivering enhanced performance and connectivity. The device retains the design of its predecessor, featuring an 8-core CPU and a 9-core GPU, resulting in a 30% performance increase over the M3 model and up to 2.3 times faster than the M1 version. The M4 chip also supports second-generation hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing, enhancing graphics capabilities.
Memory has been upgraded to 12GB of unified memory, a 50% increase from the previous model, with memory bandwidth now at 120GB/s. The 16-core Neural Engine is three times faster than that of the M1, optimizing on-device AI tasks.
Connectivity improvements include the N1 wireless networking chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Cellular models feature the C1X modem, offering up to 50% faster cellular data performance and up to 30% less modem energy usage compared to the M3 model.
The iPad Air is available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, with storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB. It supports accessories like the Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard. Despite the upgrades, pricing remains unchanged, starting at $599 for the 11-inch model and $799 for the 13-inch model. Pre-orders began on March 4, with availability starting March 11.
