US intelligence assessments question the efficacy of recent military actions in Iran, while concerns rise over the depletion of American weapon stockpiles.
Recent US intelligence evaluations have cast doubt on the effectiveness of the ongoing military campaign in Iran, suggesting that the strikes may not achieve the intended goal of regime change. A classified report by the National Intelligence Council indicates that despite the aggressive nature of the attacks, Iran's government is likely to maintain its structure and appoint a successor to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the initial strikes.
In parallel, Democratic lawmakers have raised alarms about the rapid depletion of US weapon stockpiles due to the conflict. The extensive use of munitions, particularly interceptors like Patriot and THAAD missiles, has sparked concerns about the nation's preparedness for other potential global threats. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut expressed apprehension regarding the impact on allies, stating, "I’m deeply concerned about Ukraine... resources and supplies are limited, and I think we will be hard pressed, at some point, to tell Ukraine what is coming."
The military operations, which began with coordinated airstrikes by the US and Israel, have resulted in significant casualties and infrastructure damage in Iran. Human rights organizations report over 1,000 civilian deaths, including at least 181 children under the age of ten. One of the deadliest incidents involved a strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' elementary school in Minab, reportedly killing between 108 and over 160 children.
Despite these developments, President Donald Trump has indicated plans to escalate military actions, emphasizing a commitment to achieving unconditional surrender from Iran. In a recent statement, he declared, "There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!"
