Iran's President Rejects U.S. Surrender Demand, Apologizes to Gulf Neighbors

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's demand for Iran's unconditional surrender, labeling it a "dream" that adversaries should "take to their graves." In a prerecorded address broadcast on state television, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran would not capitulate to such demands.

Simultaneously, Pezeshkian issued an apology to neighboring Gulf countries for recent Iranian missile and drone attacks, attributing the strikes to miscommunication within military ranks following the deaths of senior officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He stated that Iran's temporary leadership council had approved suspending attacks on neighboring countries unless an assault on Iran originated from those states.

The conflict, now in its eighth day, began with joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes that resulted in the death of Khamenei. Since then, hostilities have escalated, with Israel launching a fresh wave of strikes on Iran, including a pre-dawn blitz involving 80 fighter jets targeting Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport. Iran has retaliated with attacks on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. military installations.

The ongoing violence has led to significant casualties and disruptions. Iran's health ministry reports at least 926 civilian deaths and approximately 6,000 injuries. In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in at least 217 deaths, with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warning of a looming humanitarian disaster. The Norwegian Refugee Council estimates that about 300,000 people have been displaced.
