Mass Evacuations in Beirut Amid Intensified Israeli Airstrikes

Ամփոփում

Over 500,000 residents of Beirut's southern suburbs have been ordered to evacuate as Israeli airstrikes target Hezbollah positions, escalating regional tensions.

Israeli airstrikes have intensified in Beirut's southern suburbs following an evacuation order affecting over 500,000 residents. The Israeli military directed inhabitants of the area to "save your lives and evacuate your homes immediately," leading to a mass exodus from the Lebanese capital.

The targeted neighborhoods, including Haret Hreik and Burj al-Barajneh, are known strongholds of Hezbollah. Israeli forces claim the strikes aim at Hezbollah's military infrastructure in response to recent rocket attacks on northern Israel.

Lebanese officials report significant casualties and damage. The Health Ministry confirmed at least 217 deaths and 798 injuries on Friday, with hundreds of thousands displaced.

Hezbollah has declared readiness for "open war" with Israel, following the escalation. Senior official Mahmoud Qmati stated, "This has become a major war – a war of existence. This new war will be harder, more brutal."

The Lebanese government has condemned the airstrikes and is urging international intervention to prevent further escalation. President Joseph Aoun called on the U.S. and France, as ceasefire guarantors, to hold Israel accountable for the violations.

The situation remains volatile, with ongoing military actions and a growing humanitarian crisis as displaced residents seek shelter and safety.
