Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Arrested on Suspicion of Misconduct in Public Office
Former Prince Andrew has been arrested by U.K. police on suspicion of misconduct in public office, following allegations of sharing confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Thames Valley Police confirmed the arrest of a man in his 60s from Norfolk, aligning with Mountbatten-Windsor's age and residence. The arrest follows allegations that he shared confidential trade reports with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2010, during his tenure as the UK's special envoy for international trade. These allegations emerged from documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice related to Epstein's case.
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright stated,
"Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office. It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in ... ."
Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing in his relationship with Epstein. In 2019, Queen Elizabeth II removed his military affiliations and patronages, and he ceased using the style "Royal Highness." In 2025, King Charles III further stripped him of remaining royal styles and honours, restricting his use of titles and peerages. He vacated Royal Lodge and relocated to private accommodation on the Sandringham estate.
The arrest occurred at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where unmarked police cars and plainclothes officers were seen gathering outside. Authorities are conducting searches at properties in Berkshire and Norfolk as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case has reignited scrutiny over Mountbatten-Windsor's association with Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as appropriate.
