PJM Interconnection, serving approximately 20% of Americans from the mid-Atlantic to the Midwest, has declared an energy emergency alert. This action anticipates tight conditions on the 13-state system, with electricity demand projected to exceed 160 gigawatts on the afternoon of June 23, marking the highest peak since July 2011. The grid operator has also initiated a 'maximum generation emergency' to bolster supplies.
