Meta and Oakley Announce AI-Powered Glasses Launching This Summer

Summary

Meta and Oakley have announced a new line of AI-powered glasses, available for preorder starting next month.

Meta and Oakley have announced the upcoming release of AI-powered glasses, the Oakley Meta HSTN, developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica. The glasses will feature an Ultra HD camera, open-ear speakers, and the Meta AI app, enabling hands-free photo and video capture. They are designed with an extended battery life compared to previous models. A limited-edition version will be available for preorder on July 11, priced at $499, with a standard version expected to launch later this summer at $399. This collaboration follows previous partnerships between Meta and EssilorLuxottica, including the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Meta stated, 'Glasses have emerged as a major new hardware category of the AI era.' Other technology companies, such as Alphabet and Snap, are also developing AI-powered eyewear. Alphabet has partnered with Warby Parker to develop similar products, while Snap plans to launch the latest version of its AI glasses, known as Specs, in 2026. As of Friday afternoon trading, Meta shares were down approximately 2% to just above $684, having increased roughly 17% since the start of the year.
