Sam Darnold's Contract Incentives Boosted by Super Bowl Victory

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold secured an additional $1 million in contract incentives after leading his team to a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Sunday. This bonus adds to the $3 million he had already earned this season through various performance and playoff milestones.

Darnold's contract, signed in March 2025, includes several performance-based incentives. He earned $500,000 each for surpassing 4,000 passing yards, achieving a completion rate of at least 67.5%, and leading the Seahawks to a top-ten offense. Additionally, he received $500,000 for the team's playoff berth, $500,000 for a divisional round win, and $500,000 for the NFC Championship victory. The Super Bowl win added the final $1 million bonus to his total incentives.

In the championship game, Darnold completed 19 of 38 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown, with no interceptions. Reflecting on the victory, Darnold expressed his gratitude: "It's unbelievable. Just everything that's happened in my career. But to do it with this team, I wouldn't want it any other way." He also praised his teammates, stating, "I can't say enough about our defense and special teams."

Darnold's journey to this achievement has been marked by perseverance. Drafted third overall by the New York Jets in 2018, he faced challenges in New York before being traded to the Carolina Panthers. After two seasons there, he served as a backup for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. Darnold then earned a starting position with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, leading them to the playoffs. In 2025, he joined the Seahawks, where he completed a career-high 67.7% of his passes for 4,048 yards and 25 touchdowns, along with 14 interceptions.

Throughout Seattle's playoff run, Darnold maintained efficiency, throwing for 470 yards and four touchdowns over the first three postseason games, with a completion rate of 69.8% and an average of 8.9 yards per attempt.
