Meta has announced a new pair of smart glasses developed in collaboration with Oakley, featuring enhanced battery life and 3K video capture.

Meta has announced a new pair of smart glasses developed in collaboration with Oakley. These glasses offer double the battery life compared to the previous Meta Ray-Ban models and can capture 3K video. The design is based on Oakley’s HSTN model and is described as Meta’s first product aimed at athletes and fans.

The limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN model, featuring gold-colored accents, is priced at $499 and will be available for preorder on July 11. Other models in the collection start at $399 and are expected to be released later this summer.

Features of the glasses include a front-facing camera, open-ear speakers, and microphones, allowing users to listen to music, take photos, and make or receive calls. The integration of Meta AI enables users to ask questions such as “Hey Meta, how strong is the wind today?” or “Hey Meta, take a video.” Additionally, Meta AI can provide information about the user's surroundings and translate languages.

The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses have a battery life of up to eight hours with typical use and up to 19 hours on standby. They can be charged up to 50% in 20 minutes and come with a charging case that provides up to 48 hours of additional charging.

Available in six frame and lens color combinations—warm grey with ruby lenses, black with polar black lenses, brown smoke with polar deep water lenses, black with amethyst lenses, clear with grey lenses, and black with clear lenses—the glasses are compatible with prescription lenses at an additional cost. Some models feature Oakley Prizm Lens technology, designed to enhance visibility in various lighting and weather conditions.

The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses will be available in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. Meta plans to launch them in Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates later this year.

This product is part of a multi-year partnership between Meta and EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Oakley and Ray-Ban. According to EssilorLuxottica’s FY2024 financial results, over two million pairs of Meta Ray-Ban glasses have been sold to date.
