Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty in London Assault Case

Summary

Singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to a charge related to an alleged assault on a music producer in a London nightclub in 2023.

LONDON (AP) — Singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty on Friday to a charge of attempting to unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm with intent. The charge relates to an alleged incident in February 2023 at Tape nightclub in London's Mayfair district, where Brown is accused of assaulting music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle, followed by punching and kicking him. The alleged assault was reportedly captured on surveillance footage. Brown's associate, musician Omololu Akinlolu, also known as 'Hoody Baby,' pleaded not guilty to the same charge. Both defendants were granted bail and are scheduled to return to court on July 11 to address additional charges, including assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Brown's trial is set for October 26, 2026. Following his release on £5 million ($6.75 million) bail, Brown resumed his European tour, with upcoming performances in the U.K., Ireland, Scotland, France, and Portugal. He is scheduled to return to North America at the end of July.
