Leaked Details Emerge on Apple's Upcoming Foldable iPhone Design
Recent leaks suggest Apple's first foldable iPhone will feature a redesigned button layout, a black camera module, and the largest battery capacity in an iPhone to date.
Apple's anticipated entry into the foldable smartphone market is becoming clearer with new design details emerging from a recent leak. The forthcoming device is expected to introduce significant changes in button placement, camera design, and internal structure.
According to information from the Weibo user "Instant Digital," the foldable iPhone will relocate the volume buttons to the top-right edge, akin to the iPad mini's configuration. The power button, integrated with Touch ID, and the Camera Control button will remain on the right side, while the left side will be devoid of any buttons, resulting in a streamlined appearance. This arrangement is reportedly due to the motherboard's placement on the right side, allowing the left side to accommodate the display and a larger battery.
The device is also expected to feature a single punch-hole front camera, leading to a smaller Dynamic Island. On the rear, a black camera module will house two horizontally aligned cameras, a microphone, and a flash, contrasting with the device's body color.
Internally, the foldable iPhone is said to employ a stacked design, maximizing space for the display and battery. This design is anticipated to result in the largest battery capacity ever in an iPhone.
Color options at launch may be limited, with white being the only confirmed color and one additional color expected.
These details align with previous reports suggesting that Apple's foldable iPhone will feature a 7.8-inch crease-free inner display, a 5.5-inch cover display, Touch ID, two rear cameras, the A20 chip, and the "C2" modem. The device is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year.
