Indonesia has lifted its ban on Elon Musk's Grok chatbot, allowing the service to resume under strict supervision. The decision follows X Corp's commitment to enhancing compliance with the country's laws.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs stated that access is being restored "on a conditional basis and under strict supervision." Senior ministry official Alexander Sabar emphasized that the normalization of access is conditional upon X Corp's written commitment, which outlines concrete steps for service improvement and abuse prevention. He noted that this commitment serves as the basis for evaluation and is not the end of the supervision process.
X Corp has implemented several "layered" measures to address the misuse of Grok services, which will be continuously verified by the ministry.
Indonesia had suspended Grok three weeks prior, citing the risk of AI-generated pornographic content, becoming the first country to deny access to the AI tool.
X Corp and xAI, which operates Grok, did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside business hours.
