Pakistan Security Forces Repel Coordinated Militant Attacks in Balochistan
Pakistani security forces successfully countered coordinated attacks by the Baloch Liberation Army across Balochistan, resulting in significant militant casualties and highlighting ongoing regional tensions.
On January 31, 2026, Pakistani security forces engaged in intense battles with militants across multiple cities in Balochistan province, resulting in the deaths of at least 92 militants. The coordinated attacks, claimed by the banned separatist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), targeted various locations, including Quetta, Gwadar, Mastung, Nushki, Dalbandin, Panjgur, Tump, and Pasni.
The assaults led to the deaths of 15 security personnel and 18 civilians, including women and children. In Gwadar, militants attacked a camp housing migrant workers, killing 11 civilians. Security forces responded by killing six militants in the area.
In Mastung district, militants stormed a high-security prison, freeing over 30 inmates before security reinforcements arrived. The BLA claimed responsibility for these coordinated attacks, stating they had launched simultaneous strikes across the province targeting military, police, and government installations.
The Pakistani military accused the militants of receiving support from outside the country, a claim that has been denied by India. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for thwarting the attacks and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to combating terrorism.
Balochistan, Pakistan's largest but least developed province, has faced a decades-long separatist insurgency, with repeated attacks on security forces, civilians, and development projects in the resource-rich region.
