Ethiopian Diaspora Actively Participates in National Dialogue Process

Ethiopians residing abroad are playing a significant role in Ethiopia's National Dialogue by actively participating in agenda-setting and consultation forums. The Ethiopian Diaspora Service (EDS) highlighted that these individuals have engaged in discussions on national issues and submitted proposals reflecting shared concerns and aspirations.

The National Dialogue process is underway across various regions and city administrations, including among the diaspora, as part of preparations for the main national consultation conference. Forums involving the diaspora have been conducted in countries such as South Africa, North America, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

During these forums, participants deliberated on key national issues, forwarded their agendas to the National Dialogue Commission, and elected representatives for the next phase of the process. Ambassador Fitsum Arega, Director General of the Ethiopian Diaspora Service, noted that these forums have helped identify priority agendas and select representatives for the main national consultation conference, with outcomes formally submitted to the commission.

Helen Befekadu, Deputy Chairperson of the Ethiopian Community in Birmingham, United Kingdom, emphasized the importance of strengthening national consensus through dialogue, stressing that unity within diversity is essential for building a sustainable state. She highlighted that the forum in the United Kingdom generated valuable ideas contributing positively to Ethiopia's future.

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission has now entered the agenda-setting and resource-gathering phase, paving the way for the main national consultation conference through continued engagement with stakeholders in regions and city administrations.
