Kenya and Czech Republic Sign Defence Cooperation Agreement
Kenya and the Czech Republic have formalized a Defence Cooperation Agreement to enhance military collaboration, including training and capacity-building.
Kenya and the Czech Republic have officially signed a Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi. The signing ceremony was presided over by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Soipan Tuya, and the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Kenya, Nicol Adamcová.
"This marks a strategic step in reinforcing our defence capabilities, ensuring our personnel are better equipped, trained, and prepared for regional and international peacekeeping and security responsibilities," said CS Tuya.
The DCA, discussions for which began in 2019, establishes a structured framework for military cooperation, encompassing training, capacity-building, and joint initiatives. The event was attended by senior officials from both nations, including Kenya’s Ambassador to Germany, Stella Mokaya Orina, and Major General Fredrick Leuria, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Plans, Doctrine, and Training.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to mutual trust, shared security objectives, and the promotion of peace and stability within the East African region and beyond.
In related developments, Kenya has recently strengthened defence ties with other nations. Earlier this month, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) held strategic meetings with India, focusing on joint military training, defence industry cooperation, medical training, and border security. In September last year, Kenya and Ethiopia signed a renewed DCA in Addis Ababa, covering joint military training, border protection, counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and defence industry development. Additionally, Kenya and France signed a DCA to enhance bilateral security cooperation, including intelligence sharing, maritime security, peacekeeping, and personnel training.
These agreements aim to create structured frameworks for enhanced cooperation, fostering self-reliance and improving the operational effectiveness of armed forces in high-threat environments.
