Summary

Mwanza Region, in partnership with the Tanzania Forest Services, planted 12,758 trees to commemorate President Samia Suluhu Hassan's birthday, emphasizing environmental conservation and future generations' welfare.

Mwanza Region, in collaboration with the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS), has planted 12,758 trees to honor President Samia Suluhu Hassan's birthday. The initiative aims to promote environmental conservation and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

The announcement was made on January 27, 2026, by Mwanza Regional Commissioner Said Mtanda, following the planting of over 1,200 trees at the New Kakebe-Igoma Secondary School in Nyamagana District. The tree-planting campaign commenced at the Ilemela District Commissioner's office and concluded at the school.

"Mwanza Region has joined the President in community service by planting fruit trees, which helps ensure better nutrition for future children and also contributes to environmental conservation," said Mtanda.

He encouraged citizens to plant trees on farms and in residential areas, viewing it as both an environmental responsibility and a spiritual offering.

"Environmental conservation is a patriotic duty. A healthy environment creates better lives. If society preserves it well, we will have sufficient rainfall. I urge all citizens to plant trees in their homes," he added.

Nyamagana District Commissioner Amina Makilagi highlighted that planting trees at the school has inspired similar efforts in other areas, including homes. She emphasized that fruit trees provide shade and improve nutrition.

Makilagi also expressed gratitude to the government for funding the project, noting that planting trees at Kakebe School will alleviate the hardship of students walking over 5 kilometers from Shamaliwa to Igoma.

Additionally, the Regional Commissioner initiated a fundraising drive of TZS 1,800,000 to connect electricity and water to the school. To date, TZS 1,350,800 has been raised, with instructions given to the TANESCO Manager to supply electricity immediately and coordinate with the Mwanza City Director for water provision.
