Trump Expresses Concerns Over Netflix's Proposed Acquisition of Warner Bros.
President Donald Trump has raised concerns about Netflix's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, citing potential market dominance issues.
President Donald Trump has expressed reservations regarding Netflix's proposed $72 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, highlighting potential concerns over market dominance.
"They have a very big market share, and when they have Warner Bros., you know, that share goes up a lot so, I don't know," Trump stated. "I'll be involved in that decision, too. But they have a very big market share."
The merger, announced in early December, aims to combine Netflix's streaming services with Warner Bros.' extensive film and television assets, including HBO Max.
In response to the proposed deal, Paramount has launched a $77.9 billion hostile takeover bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, backed by a $40.4 billion personal guarantee from Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison.
Warner Bros. Discovery's board has rejected Paramount's offer, citing concerns over financing and potential risks, and continues to support the merger with Netflix.
The proposed mergers are expected to undergo significant regulatory scrutiny, with antitrust authorities requesting more information regarding Paramount's unsolicited takeover attempt.
