Google's 2026 Hardware Plans: No Smart Ring or New Pixel Tablet
Google executives confirm no plans for a smart ring or new Pixel Tablet in 2026, focusing instead on existing product lines.
Google executives have confirmed that the company has no plans to develop a smart ring or release a new Pixel Tablet in 2026. Rick Osterloh, Google's Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, stated that the company is focusing on its current product lines and does not foresee a scenario where users would need to carry more than their smartphones alongside other connected devices like smartwatches, earbuds, and augmented reality glasses.
This decision aligns with Google's recent strategy to streamline its hardware offerings. In August 2024, the company announced that Fitbit would no longer produce new smartwatches, with the Pixel Watch series taking over that form factor. Additionally, Google has been integrating Fitbit features into its Pixel-branded smartwatches since acquiring Fitbit in 2019.
While the company is not pursuing a smart ring or new tablet, it continues to invest in other areas of wearable technology. In October 2025, Google introduced an AI-powered personal health coach for the Fitbit app, offering customized workout routines and sleep coaching. The Pixel Watch 4, released in October 2025, features on-device AI capabilities and enhanced health tracking features.
