Sprinkles Cupcakes Closes All Locations Nationwide
Sprinkles Cupcakes has ceased operations at all 21 stores and over 30 'cupcake ATMs' across the United States.
Sprinkles Cupcakes, the bakery chain renowned for its gourmet cupcakes and innovative 'cupcake ATMs,' has permanently closed all 21 of its retail locations and over 30 ATMs nationwide. The closures were implemented abruptly, with employees reportedly receiving minimal notice. Founder Candace Nelson, who sold the company to private equity firm KarpReilly in 2012, expressed her surprise and sadness over the shutdown. In a social media post, Nelson stated,
"I thought Sprinkles would keep growing and be around forever. I thought it was going to be my legacy."
The company has not provided a public explanation for the closures. Sprinkles was established in 2005 in Beverly Hills, California, and played a significant role in popularizing the gourmet cupcake trend. The sudden shutdown has left many employees and customers expressing disappointment and concern over the lack of communication regarding the decision.
