Former Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Charged with Home Invasion and Stalking
Sherrone Moore, recently dismissed as head coach of the University of Michigan football team, faces charges including home invasion and stalking following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
Sherrone Moore, the former head coach of the University of Michigan football team, has been charged with felony home invasion and misdemeanor stalking. These charges follow his recent dismissal from the university due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
Prosecutors allege that Moore unlawfully entered the residence of a woman with whom he had a long-term affair. After the woman ended the relationship and reported it to the university, Moore was dismissed from his position. Shortly thereafter, he allegedly forced his way into her apartment, retrieved kitchen utensils, and threatened to harm himself. The woman contacted authorities, leading to Moore's arrest.
Moore appeared in court via video from jail, where a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He was released on a $25,000 bond with conditions including no contact with the woman, GPS monitoring, and continued mental health treatment. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 22.
Moore, 39, had been with Michigan's football program for six years and served as head coach for two seasons. His dismissal and subsequent charges have left the university's football program in a state of uncertainty. Biff Poggi has been appointed interim head coach as the team prepares for the upcoming Citrus Bowl.
